Beloved islander Rene Reyes used to greet locals and tourists alike with the phrase, “It’s another
day in paradise!” He always had a smile on his face and an upbeat outlook on life. It was a great reminder not to take for granted the good life we live here: a healthy mix of home and work, and friends and fun.
Unfortunately, the last few months we’ve had to stay in our homes and workthere too, if we could work at all, not see friends and not have much fun. As we slowly move to get back to our “normal” lives, I thought I’d share some quotes that I’ve found to be helpful. Hopefully, they’ll remind you that your happiness is in your own hands.
“Waste your money and you’re only out of money, but waste your time and you’ve lost a part of your life.” ~Michael LeBoeuf
“Wisdom doesn’t automatically come with old age. Nothing does—except wrinkles. It’s true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place.” ~Abigail Van Buren
“When things go wrong don’t go with them.” ~Elvis Presley
“You make a living by what you get, you make a life by what you give.” ~Winston Churchill
“I have never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as a cause for withdrawing from a friendship.” ~Thomas Jefferson
”Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’” ~Martin Luther King Jr.
“Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.” ~James Dean
“Trust that little voice in your head that says, ‘Wouldn’t it be interesting if…’ And then do it.” ~Duane Michals
And my personal favorite:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~Mark Twain
