Build a Life of Recovery
Depression is a serious and well-recognized mental health problem that can interfere with all aspects of a person life. Fortunately, there are many evidenced based effective treatments to help people regain full functioning and satisfaction in their lives. Anxiety is the most common mental health problem in the U.S., but is not as easily recognized. So many people suffer from anxiety and stress disorders without getting appropriate diagnoses and treatment.
Depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorders can also contribute to overuse of alcohol and drugs as individuals with these problems try to find a way to feel better. But the use of alcohol and other drugs frequently makes people’s lives worse. Not only do they have a profoundly negative impact on the mental, physical, and spiritual well-being of the individual who is suffering directly from their detrimental effects, but they also have an indirect adverse impact on surrounding families, workplaces, and society in general. Addiction to opioid substances, such as pain pills and heroin is now recognized as a national crisis and affects young people at an ever-increasing frequency. Overdose from these drugs exceeds deaths from automobile accidents and many other causes of death.
Seth Eisenberg, M.D. and Douglas Cooper M.D. are pleased to introduce the ecoveryMD psychiatric practice, where they are able to provide medication and counseling for these complicated problems, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with buprenorphine and naltrexone for pain pill and heroin addiction. Both Dr. Eisenberg and Dr. Cooper are experienced in the treatment of behavioral health medical disorders, but the main focus of their practice is on building a life of recovery. They help people and families develop the coping skills to manage everyday life stress, as well as more serious mood and anxiety disorders.
Both doctors are also able to provide treatment for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), another common and mental health problem. Pursuant to his family history of military service, along with his stint as the Director of Mental Health for New York City's two veterans residential treatment (PTSD/Chemical Dependency) programs, Dr. Cooper has had an enduring close personal connection with the VA (Veterans Association) population, working to aid those who have served to overcome difficult issues related to past military duty. In addition, Dr. Eisenberg and Dr. Cooper both have extensive experience working with adolescents and believe that addressing mental health problems in young people, and the family of origin, is critical to prevent serious life difficulties in adulthood.
Dr. Eisenberg and Dr. Cooper believe that recovery from mental health and addiction problems is possible for everyone, and that there are many paths that can be followed to get there. Their practice framework is “All Recovery, All the Time.” Everyone wants to feel happy, fulfilled, and proud of how they live their life, and to have a meaningful connection to others. This isn’t easy in the modern world, but can be more and more attainable every day.
The doctors specialize in anxiety, mood and substance use disorders, and provide medication assisted treatment, counseling, recovery support, and referrals for additional needs. They endorse the importance of treatment that encompasses mind, body, and spirit to achieve personal realization, and strive to help patients work to overcome barriers to recovery and to create a life that supports health and wellness. Their St. Simons Island ecoveryMD office is located in a private and picturesque location across from the lighthouse at 613 Beachview Drive, Ste. B. Call 912.434.9311 to schedule an appointment.
