It just feels different here. There’s a sense of openness you won’t find under our stately tree canopies and there’s a calm stillness that you don’t get where the waves crash against the shore. Here, the marshes envelop you in rich shades of gold and green with blue sky overhead. Herons and egrets can be spotted on posts and in the waving grasses. As you walk, tiny crabs scurry everywhere. The sun sparkles on the surface of the winding creek.
If you grew up on St. Simons Island, there’s a good chance you know this property well. For decades, Village Creek Landing has been welcoming people to enjoy the splendor of the Golden Isles by using its marina and boat ramp or visiting the current event venue and earlier restaurants there that hosted countless celebrations over the years. Once the site of Cusie’s Fish Camp, Village Creek Landing is a peninsula located at the end of South Harrington Road off of Frederica Road mid-island. The spot provides panoramic views over the Marshes of Glynn of Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island, and St. Simons Island.

Walkway to Village Creek Landing
Village Creek Landing was purchased from the prior owners of the property by the Gowen family through their company Village Creek LLC earlier this year. We can think of no better stewards or lovers of the land. Established local business owners, the Gowens have proven through their various endeavors over the years that they care about the community and environment we live in. Michael Gowen has been using Village Creek Landing as an outpost for his business Southeast Adventure Outfitters for quite some time. The Gowens have demonstrated not only a passion for sharing the beauty and bounty of our coast but a commitment and dedication to preserving our island home, its history and culture.

While the Gowens stress there are no plans for development or changing the traditional use of the property, they are updating the structures there. They plan on installing a wrap-around deck and decking the area to the gazebo. The iconic wooden gazebo will be repaired and new stairs installed. All this to make the venue safer and more attractive as a place for celebration and to watch the sunsets. The natural beauty of this birders’ paradise and favorite launch site for kayaks will be maintained and protected under their care.

Village Creek Landing interior remodel in progress
The interior renovations to the venue are well underway. Wooden ceiling beams, new floors, light fixtures and window treatments have been completed. Bathrooms have been updated. New live edge bars on the upper deck and seating areas are being installed. The venue can host up to 300 people and is perfect for weddings, family reunions, corporate events, and fundraisers. Imagine toasting your guests as the sun paints the sky in shades of orange and pink and makes the marsh glow in golden hues.
Plans for updating the space expected to be complete by Spring of 2019. To inquire about booking, amenities, and pricing, please contact villagecreeklanding@gmail.com. They are booking events now! Let the unique enchantment of Village Creek Landing make your next event magical.
The Elegant Island Living staff was on site at Village Creek Landing while Ben was taking the drone shots and we took the time to snap some photos of our own. Here's a exclusive website-only gallery of some of the incredible views at this wonderful little corner of our island.
