Last year, local primary care physician Dr. James W. Greene took his long-established family medicine practice in a new direction. In response to the ever-changing healthcare landscape and a desire to offer his patients more time and a closer doctor-patient relationship, Dr. Greene became the first MDVIP-affiliated physician in the Brunswick and Golden Isles communities.
MDVIP is a national network of select primary care physicians who choose to have smaller practices so they can offer a more personalized and proactive approach to healthcare focused on prevention and wellness. Dr. Greene’s patients receive a comprehensive, annual wellness program that includes individual consultations, advanced screenings and diagnostic tests, family history analysis and a customized action plan.
“The partnerships I am able to form with my patients are far from typical in today’s rushed healthcare environment. I have been able to treat patients in their homes, evaluate them using the latest lab panels from the Cleveland HeartLab and help coordinate specialized care at the Mayo Clinic and other renowned medical facilities throughout the country. Being able to get people into the office when they need to be seen and being available after hours and on the weekends has reduced hospitalizations.”
Dr. Greene’s patient-first philosophy and limited practice size allow him to get to know his patients on a deeper level, learning their lifestyles, values and health goals, as well as their families, hobbies and aspirations. Knowing his patients well beyond their symptoms is helping to identify risk factors and prevention strategies early and supports recent published studies that show MDVIP-affiliated physicians are more effective at managing chronic conditions and perform more recommended preventive care services than the average among national health plans.
“This year with MDVIP has been one of the most gratifying years of my entire medical career,” Dr. Greene says. “I am seeing my patients’ lives significantly improve because of the quality time we are able to spend together and the expanded resources available to us.”
Patient care extends outside of the office through exclusive health education events, like ‘Shop with the Doc’ where Dr. Greene and his patients walk around the grocery store to learn how to read nutrition labels and make healthy shopping lists. Other events include health-specific discussions on topics such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, sleep, stress, and nutrition that are open to the community, as well as to Dr. Greene’s patients and family. The next discussion focuses on heart attack prevention and takes place on September 17 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Sea Palms Resort. It is free and open to the public, and you can attend by calling the office to RSVP.
The exclusive benefits offered in Dr. Greene’s MDVIP-affiliated primary care practice appeal to individuals and families on the mainland and in the Golden Isles community who want a better healthcare experience.
