100 Years of Broadway
The concluding event of the inauguration of Dr. Gregory F. Aloia as the fifth president of the College of Coastal Georgia will bring some of Broadway’s favorite songs and performers to the stage of the Thomas Auditorium, Southeast Georgia Conference Center, on Friday night, April 25. The celebration will conclude with a benefit performance of Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway.
The award-winning composer, lyricist and producer’s website described 100 Years of Broadway as recreating “the greatest moments from the finest shows of the century featuring the actual stars of shows such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, CATS, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Jekyll & Hyde. These amazing performers light up the stage with songs from the hit shows in which they starred. Neil Berg presents brilliantly revived arrangements of Broadway classics as well as thrilling numbers from Broadway's newest hit shows.”
The show routinely garners rave reviews and requests for repeat performances:
- Steven Janicki (Executive Director of Melbourne's 2,000-seat King Center), after presenting the show, wrote: "The show was fantastic! What a treat. I heard many great things from the audience during intermission and after the show. A few people I spoke with were not sure of what they purchased tickets to, but were so pleased they came. The audience really enjoyed Neil tying it all together. The talent was excellent and sang all the favorite show tunes."
- Michael Blachly (Executive Director, University of Florida Performing Arts): “A wonderful show! Our audience really enjoyed it. Yes, we want it back next season!”
- Frank Villani (Executive Director, Arts San Antonio): "An amazing show! What a fun, crowd-pleasing, gala evening! A single evening with fifty of the greatest characters in Broadway musical history on stage performed by many of the artists who actually played these roles on Broadway. As a presenter, too often in this business our surprises are not pleasant ones, what we expect from a show just isn't there. This show delivers more than you can possibly imagine. My audience flipped ... The word of mouth is incredible! We can repeat the show easily anytime. Bravo!!!"
Berg is the composer and lyricist of the hit Off-Broadway musical, The Prince and the Pauper, which ran for two years at the Lambs Theater in New York City. He is also the composer for the theatre production of Grumpy Old Men and is collaborating with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan on a new rock musical, The Twelve. His recent musical, The Man Who Would Be King with books and lyrics by DJ Salisbury, is scheduled to premiere this year. The 6:30 p.m. performance will be followed by a celebration for benefactors ($500/ticket) with Dr. and Mrs. Aloia and cast members. General admission tickets ($50/ticket) include a pre-performance wine and cheese reception in the Southeast Georgia Conference Center atrium.
