Cinema Gourmet, Golden Isles Arts & Humanities’ popular series pairing delicious food with classic films, presents Rashomon (1950), Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece about truth on January 11. The film’s screening and discussion are paired with the culinary delights of Chef Judah Lynch and Indigo Coastal Shanty. The evening’s events begin with delicious food at 6:30pm.
In Rashomon (1950), a man is killed and his wife raped. A notorious bandit is captured and accused of the crimes. In court the three people involved - the bandit, the woman and the man (via a medium) - detail what happened but their stories vary considerably. Which version is the truth? Starring Tishiro Mifune and directed by Akira Kurosawa. Not Rated
Cinema Gourmet will offer three more screenings during the season: The Wizard of Oz on February 8; Sissy Spacek in Coal Miner’s Daughter on March 14; and George Lucas’ coming of age tale, American Graffiti, on April 11.
Seating is limited for the food, talk and movie, so audience members are encouraged to purchase their tickets early. The deadline for buying tickets including dinner is midnight on the Monday prior to the screening. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by phone with a credit card or in person at the Ritz Theatre, Tuesdays through Fridays 9am-5pm. Tickets may also be purchased securely online at goldenislesarts.org. Tickets for the talk and movie only may be purchased at the door the night of the screening for $7.
