The Golden Isles Alzheimer’s Walk, presented by Edward Jones of the Golden Isles, will take place at Neptune Park on St. Simons Island, Saturday, October 3, 2020. The event is hosted by the Georgia Alzheimer’s Foundation and funds raised will be split equally between local service organization Memory Matters-Glynn, and Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Emory University in Atlanta, GA., one of 27 active centers in the nation supported by the National Institutes of health.
Signature Properties Group Office Manager, Charlene James, says, "I have a personal association with Memory Matters Glynn, having taken advantage of many of their services including their caregivers support group. My mother, who has Alzheimer's, attended fun workshops and group parties there. We are over the top with excitement to be involved with a Foundation that gives back to our community."
Attendees will honor and remember their loved ones in Neptune Park before participating in either a 1-mile or 2-mile walk of their choosing. COVID-19 guidelines will be in place including staggered walk times beginning at 9:00 a.m. to enforce social distancing. To register to participate in the walk, please visit gaalz.org. To donate to Team Signature, please call 912-634-9995 or email SignaturePropertiesGroup@gmail.com.
Please note these guidelines will be in place:
1. Enforced Social Distancing
"Drive-thru" registration will be held Wed, September 30, from 9-10:30 am and 4-5:30 pm in the Law Office of Deborah L. Britt parking lot (302 Plantation Chase, St Simons.) Pick up everything you need and skip registration on walk day!
Staggered arrival/walk times. Each team will be given a designated time to arrive and begin their walk eliminating any large gatherings.
Opening ceremony will be live-streamed on Facebook prior to the walk (exact time TBA).
2. Increased Sanitation and Safety Measures
Event will be held completely outdoors in Neptune Park (550 Beachview Drive, St. Simons Island).
Registration volunteers will be asked to wear masks and participants will be asked to wear masks when checking in or interacting with sponsors.
Hand sanitizer will be available to all participants.
Any refreshments served will be individually wrapped and handed out by a volunteer (no self serve).
There will not be a Kids Zone this year.
Although this year's event will look and feel very different, the event organizers are excited and grateful to continue raising awareness and funds for this very important cause in a safe manner.
Island Sound will be on site with fun music, Coastal Selfies will offer an outdoor photo booth for team photos and Just Chillin' Ice Cream Truck will have individually wrapped treats for the kids (and adults too!)
