Cynthia Newberry Martin and Tidal Flats. Cynthia grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. After first practicing law, she earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She has served as the Review Editor for Contrary Magazine and the Writing Life Editor for Hunger Mountain. In 2013, she became a founding board member of the literary nonprofit Writing by Writers. Tidal Flats is her first novel and she has been praised by writers such as Jacquelyn Mitchard ( The Deep End of the Ocean) who calls Cynthia “a storyteller at the top of her game” and Pam Houston ( Deep Creek: Finding Hope in The High Country) who says “this book is a stunning, heart-expanding debut.”
