Shovels & Rope are an American folk duo from Charleston, South Carolina composed of Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst. Combining threads from their individual solo careers, Shovels & Rope blends traditional folk, rock and roll, and country rock.
At the end of 2017, Shovels & Rope delivered the anticipated second iteration of Busted Jukebox, a compilation of cover songs featuring artists such as Brandi Carlile, Hayes Carll, and John Moreland. This followed up the first Busted Jukebox record, which toted collaborations with Shakey Graves, The Milk Carton Kids, Lucius, and Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Their latest LP release is Little Seeds, on which Trent and Hearst as ever play all the instruments and penned the material, which range from stomping rockers to delicate acoustic-based numbers. The electrifying New West Records bow by Shovels & Rope finds the award-winning duo exploring fresh dimensions in their sound with a brace of bold, candid, highly personal new songs.
The concert's opening act is INDIANOLA. Owen Beverly is INDIANOLA, the culmination of a rare upbringing and career of performing and writing music all over the world in a variety of endeavors. With a multi-year stopover in Charleston, South Carolina behind him, Beverly moved to New York City and spent years as a touring member of Danish indie-pop act, Oh Land. After six years living in Brooklyn, Owen found himself called back to the South and his roots. The love of the land, the old stories of love and heartbreak, the fierce tenacity of life in the midst of hardship, sorrow, and joy break out in INDIANOLA’S music.
