Recently 2020 Brunswick High School graduate Peter Smiley was awarded the Roberta M. Born Scholarship by the Golden Isles Arts & Humanities’ Board of Directors. The scholarship, made possible through donation from The Eugenia Price/Joyce K. Blackburn Charitable Fund of the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation, honors a former GIAHA board member and Glynn County educator who valued the importance of the arts and the arts in education. “Peter is the ideal candidate,” said Board Member James Laurens. “He has outstanding participation within the community using his talent and his art to assist at Very Special Arts Day, creating an educational coloring book to promote the importance of voting, and recently assisted on the mural dedicated to Ahmaud Abrey.” Peter plans to attend Georgia State University and to return here after college as an arts educator while continuing to work as a freelance artist. goldenislesarts.org
