It’s time to add some class to the midway and bring a little island flair to the fair. Elegant Island Living is pleased to be the premier sponsor and host of an exciting new annual event for the Golden Isles Career Academy: the Candlelight Carnival.
This event will be like none other you have attended on St. Simons Island. It has had the full involvement of the Career Academy graphic design students, who selected the night’s name and designed the logo as a school assignment, and the planning committee that include some of the school’s faculty, volunteers and even EIL’s own staff has been hard at work coordinating a party in one of the most elegant and picturesque settings on the island: the Frederica boathouse and grounds. For this one evening, you’ll be transformed into that inner child who still loves the bright lights, funnel cakes, and ring toss, but you’ll do it with gourmet dining and high-style entertainment.
The festivities will kick off on September 7th at 6 p.m. on the grounds of the beautiful Frederica Golf Club and the interactive and entertaining night will evolve as time passes. Things will start with appetizers like soft pretzels with spicy mustard and homemade “cracker jacks,” boat rides and free old fashioned-style booth games. Some of the Academy’s brightest students will act as the “carnies” and the prizes include makeover packages and BBQ grills. Of course there’s a golf game with prizes (and mulligans!) and the chance to win some bottles of bubbly.
The dinner menu includes amazing items like pork and bison burgers, grilled local sweet corn with basil and chili-lime butter, and was personally designed for this event by Frederica’s talented Chef Mary Schowe. Even the desserts are carnival-approved: snow cones and bananasicles. Chef Mary will be working with some of the Academy’s culinary students overseen by Chef Lee Cranz, formerly of Sea Island, giving them real life work experience in a “five star” kitchen.
The latter part of the night takes place in the stunning boathouse with adult games of chance and the opportunity to win $15,000. That’s right: $15,000. Mason Waters and the Groove Allstars will keep the joint jumpin’ with their festive and fun tunes. There will also be silent and live auctions adding to the night. More lively treats include candy apples, gourmet animal crackers, and a specialty Circus Rickey cocktail created for the party. So whether you want to dance, try your luck with the games, or enjoy a drink on the porch under the stars, it will be a perfect night.
The Golden Isles Career Academy (GICA) is all about developing our best and brightest local students and providing employment opportunities to keep them in the Golden Isles or prepare them to go beyond. In an era where competition to get into college is greater, standards are higher, and skilled trade workers are in high demand, GICA provides opportunities for hands-on career training that traditional high schools cannot. David Butler, EIL’s publisher said about the event, “EIL is excited to partner with the people at Frederica Golf Club on such a worthwhile cause. Our children are the Golden Isles’ future and the Career Academy helps ensure a future of positive growth. The Candlelight Carnival is a great place to learn more about GICA and see the kids at work. “
Come have a blast this exciting new event and benefit a truly great cause: our kids.
