Founded in 1965, the mission of the Coastal Georgia Historical Society is to tell the inspiring stories of Coastal Georgia through the collections and historic structures entrusted to its care. As the only American Alliance of Museums accredited history institution in the coastal region, the Society impacts the lives of over 250,000 annually through museums and programming. The Society’s facilities include the St. Simons Lighthouse Museum, the A.W. Jones Heritage Center, and the World War II Home Front Museum. In the summer, they welcome music lovers to the picturesque lighthouse lawn as they play host to the Little Light Music concert series.
Light Music
On select Sunday evenings in the summer friends and families gather on the lawn to relax, picnic, and enjoy the tunes carried on the ocean breeze. Popular regional bands known for their energetic shows and lively audience interaction perform from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and it’s virtually guaranteed that you’ll see dancing on the sidewalks. Tickets are $15 for adults; children under 12 are admitted free of charge. Tickets may be purchased in advance in the Museum Store located in the A.W. Jones Heritage Center, or at the gate the evening of the concert. Inclement weather does cancel, so follow the Historical Society’s Facebook page for news and weather updates and their website at coastalgeorgiahistory.org.
The Society is grateful for the support of this year’s Little Light Music sponsors: Ameris Bank, Beachview Event Rentals and Design, Brown-Rose Wealth Management Group at Morgan Stanley, Elegant Island Living, Gardner Keim Coastal Realty, Moore Stephens Tiller, and Sea Island Landscaping. Glenn Ferrell of Brown-Rose Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley says, “John, Greer, and I have been sponsors of the Little Light Music Concert Series for several years. Our clients absolutely love to attend these events, and we do too. It is a great way to support the Coastal Georgia Historical Society and entertain our clients. The bands are awesome, and the location couldn’t be better. We look forward to Light Music every year and are excited to participate again in 2020.”
The Light Music concerts would not be possible without volunteer support. Nancy and Robert Jenkins have been volunteering for Light Music for over ten years. They exclaim, “We love to volunteer for the Little Light Music concerts because we see everyone we know! We also have most of our "Little Light Music Lovers" trained to bring us exact change for tickets! The bands are always wonderful, and it's great to hear some of the ‘Golden Oldies’ selections!”We hope to see YOU there!
