Play
By Rick Mattox, General Manager of the King and Prince Golf Course, Home of the Hampton Club
A resolution we all need to make for 2015 is to play more. Play more golf, that is, according to Rick Mattox, General Manager, of the King and Prince Golf Course, Home of the Hampton Club. Rick shares some great reasons why the game of golf is beneficial:
Golf has health benefits. You’ll sleep better by getting regular daytime exercise and will live longer. Those who golf on a regular basis have a 40% decrease in mortality rate among their peers. That’s a 5-year increase in your life expectancy!
The game is also helpful in reinforcing all basic development skills that young children need in order to launch sound academic learning. Hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness are just a couple of the developmental benefits to be gained by playing the game. Golf also enhances leadership, confidence, responsibility and courage. There is more to golf than physical skills and technique! Many CEOs regard golf as a test of character for a prospective employee--a way of seeing how they cope with pressure and triumph. In what other game do players report themselves for infringements of the rules? It continues to be a sport where ethics and integrity still matter.
Golf gives you the opportunity to socialize in groups and be with your friends and family. As they say, “The worst day of golf is still better than the best day of work.” But speaking of work, golf can be an important, or even necessary, business tool. Deals are often made on the golf course, as the players get to spend five or six hours of uninterrupted time together on the greens.
Golf is both an individual and team sport where you are only reliant on yourself to make or contribute to the success. Old can play with young, women can play with men, and scratch golfers can play with beginners, all while keeping a competitive edge to the game. It is a sport that’s all about self-improvement. The game itself is a quest for an elusive personal best, over humiliating reminders of our shortcomings.
It’s time to put down that new technology and get out on the golf course at every opportunity to reconnect with nature, your family, and your friends. To book your tee time today, call 912.634.0255 or for more information, visit kingandprince.com.
