Autumn in the Golden Isles brings shorter days, cooler temperatures, and Georgia Bulldog football. October is a beautiful month for many reasons, but I’d be remiss if I did not mention its holidays. If you polled most of the customers that frequent our Harris Teeter, Georgia-Florida weekend would undoubtedly be considered by many to be the #1 holiday, with Halloween coming in at a close second, and these are just the first two of the fall season!
As we transition into the end of the year, we seek out more hearty dishes like roasted meats, beef stews, pumpkin soups, and oyster roasts. Consequently, the wine we drink also transitions. We say goodbye to lighter and more refreshing wines like Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, and Rose and welcome richer, more full-bodied wines like Cabernet, Red Blend, Syrah, and Pinot Noir.
The real magic is wine and food pairings—where the combination makes both the food and wine taste better. One of these amazing pairings shared by one of our great customers is Pinot Noir and pesto. Game changer! Pinot Noir complements autumn dishes beautifully. Its approachable flavor profile that appeals to a wide range of palates makes it a perfect choice. Another fall favorite, Cabernet, is high in tannins which makes it an ideal pairing with steak or lamb chops because of its ability to refresh your palate after each bite. Syrah is excellent with spicy dishes, certainly a signature of the South. Therefore, if you’re looking for the perfect bottle of wine at your bulldog celebratory BBQ, Syrah would be a great choice.
We also have the perfect wine for Halloween. Universal Monster and 19 Crimes partnered up to release two limited time bottles that we made sure to get in stock. Monster lovers will want to pick up the Frankenstein Cabernet Sauvignon and the Bride of Frankenstein Red Blend, in glow-in-the dark bottles that come to life when you scan the QR code on the back with your phone or visit experience.19crimes.com.
The language of wine is universally understood and a wonderful way for people to connect. When assisting customers, I not only get to help them leave with a bottle or two, but I also get to hear stories about celebrations ranging from graduations to births to weddings. We both leave the wine section having learned something new. Wine is a lifetime of learning, and I learn something new every day.
So, before you head to the checkout at Harris Teeter, stop by the wine department. I’m happy to help you find a bottle to compliment any meal, celebrate any holiday or season, and further your knowledge of the world of wine.
