November on St. Simons Island is chock-full of events, fundraisers, professional sports, and Thanksgiving! Starting with GA/FL weekend, there doesn’t seem to be a day in November when some activity isn’t happening somewhere on the island. Once you’ve “recovered” from the “World’s Largest Cocktail Party,” there’s the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia’s annual Blue Jean Ball fundraiser on November 8th, followed by the UGA/Missouri game on the 9th, then the UGA/Auburn game on the 16th. Then there’s The RSM Classic from November 18- 24, when top PGA touring pros descend on the island for a week of amazing golf. Not only can you enjoy watching our favorite local and tournament host, Davis Love III play in person, you can also see Cole Swindell in concert on November 23, while watching the UGA/Texas A&M game on your cell phone (if your wife will let you).
Of course the end of the month of November is the START of the holiday season: Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to gather with family and friends and reflect on the blessings of the last year. Every family has their own Thanksgiving traditions from watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to frying a turkey without burning down the house. My dad’s last Thanksgiving dinner is my favorite of all time. Seeing him “glow” as he was surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren made me thankful to The Man Upstairs for the many blessings He has bestowed.
When the meal is finally over and everyone pitches in to help clear the plates, there’s a wonderful realization that we are now just a few short days away from the most magical season of all...Christmas! ’Tis the season!
Here’s wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!
