Firebox Initiative. This 3-day event celebrating everything barbeque brought more than 25 professional chefs and pitmasters to St. Simons Island and was attended by sold-out crowds. Firebox Initiative is a non-profit organization founded by SSBBQ owners Griffin Bufkin and Harrison Sapp to provide grants/donations to employees in need from the hospitality community. Recently with monies raised by Firebox, Peter Bufkin of SSBBQ presented a check to Tia Reed, proprietor of Sista’s Kitchen, to assist with her loss from a devastating house fire. “This one hit home, we have been there. When news got out about the fire we didn't even blink, we just got in the car and went to see Tia. We love her cooking and Sista’s Kitchen” said Griffin.
