This spring, College of Coastal Georgia welcomed a series of milestone moments that reflect both where the institution has been and where it is headed. From the formal investiture of Dr. Johnny L. Evans, Jr., to the debut of the new Center for the Arts, this season offers a glimpse into a future rooted in student success, community connection, and cultural growth.
A Vision for Impact
The investiture of Dr. Evans as the College’s seventh president marks an historic and meaningful occasion, one grounded in tradition and focused on the future. The ceremony brought together faculty, students, alumni, and community partners to formally recognize his leadership and shared commitment to advancing academic excellence and expanding opportunity.

“At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to our students, making sure they have the opportunity, support, and resources to succeed,” Evans said.
This same spirit carried into the evening’s Transforming Lives Scholarship Gala, an event designed not just to celebrate leadership, but to invest directly in the future of Coastal Georgia’s students. The gala highlighted the power of philanthropy to open doors, supporting scholarships that remove barriers and create pathways for success. Held in honor of the day’s investiture, the evening reflected a simple but powerful idea: education transforms lives, and access transforms futures.
A First Look at a Landmark
Both the investiture ceremony and the scholarship gala offered guests an early look inside the College’s all-new Center for the Arts, a space generating excitement across the Coastal Georgia region and beyond since its groundbreaking.
The Center is thoughtfully designed to accommodate performances, lectures, and community gatherings. Blending modern amenities with subtle coastal-inspired architecture, the space features warm wood accents, soft intentional lighting, and an atrium that draws in natural light and a sense of openness, creating an atmosphere that feels both refined and welcoming.
Among its standout features is a Steinway grand piano, a donated instrument that speaks to the level of artistry the Center is meant to support. It is a detail that signals both ambition and permanence.

A Stage for the Community
The Center for the Arts represents more than a new campus facility; it is a collaborative investment in the cultural and economic vitality of the region. Supported by community funding, managed by the College, and backed by the University System of Georgia, it stands as a shared asset for the Golden Isles.
The Center for the Arts’ grand opening performance took place on May 12, when the Coastal Symphony of Georgia took the stage for a memorable evening of classical music that served as the finale of their season. The performance not only highlighted the venue’s capabilities but also set the tone for the role it will play in the community for years to come.
The Center also positions Brunswick as a destination for regional events, conferences, and cultural experiences, strengthening both the local economy and the area’s identity.

A Historic First
The Transforming Lives Scholarship Gala added another layer of significance, marking the first formal flat-floor event held within the Center for the Arts. As a signature gathering space, the venue proved itself not only as a home for performances, but also as a place for connection, celebration, and philanthropy.
Guests experienced the space in a new way, gathering for an evening that blended purpose with elegance, all in support of expanding opportunities for students. It was, in many ways, the perfect introduction to what the Center can become.
Looking Ahead
Together, these moments tell a larger story about the College of Coastal Georgia and its role in the community. This is an institution that continues to evolve, one that honors its traditions while actively shaping its future.
Under Dr. Evans’ leadership, the focus remains clear: strengthen student success, deepen community partnerships, and create opportunities that extend far beyond campus.
For the Golden Isles, this means more than a new building or a new chapter in leadership. It means a continued investment in people, in culture, and in the shared belief that education has the power to transform not just individual lives, but entire communities.
