Excellence in Health & Fitness
When the Dineen family purchased Charter Health Club 17 years ago, they changed the name of the game for local health and fitness. Becoming the new St. Simons Health and Fitness Club was no easy task – renovations to the facility were the priority and updating the building came first. Continuous improvements have been made over the years in order to keep up with the changes in the industry. The impressive list of renovations to the facility include recent overhauls of the weight rooms and a full expansion of the yoga studios and programming– rebranding as The Club.

“Wow. What can I say? I’ve been coming here since the days that this place was called The Klubhaus House. I met my wife here and I just love it. This is my family away from my family,” shares Ken Amiano, original member. Mary, his wife, is one of the original group swim instructors; they met at the club in 1986 and the rest is history.

The Club is all about family. Members of the staff and members of the facility quickly become extended members of The Club’s family – which isn’t small by the way. With thousands of members, The Club continues to grow – while maintaining its charm of a small island family-run business. “One of my favorite things about this place is the fact that we are a great community within our Golden Isles community,” shares Catherine Fleming, Director of Membership.
The focus on family fitness has driven many of the improvements for the facility. The Cub’s Club is a dedicated area for childcare, with staff certified in children’s CPR and separate areas for infants and older children, so your kids will be entertained safely while you work out or take classes. Dale Tankersley manages the childcare facility and is truly the heart and soul of that program. Hundreds of kids have grown up with Ms. Dale over the years and life comes full circle when they come back with kids of their own. She has been a part of The Club family for over 28 years now.
In contrast, something new to the Club, is the expansion of the yoga classes with The Clouds Yoga Studio. The entire yoga floor was renovated this year, giving The Clouds more than 4,000
square feet of dedicated space. The Clouds also offers a separate hot yoga studio and pilates studio. More than 40 classes are offered each week, including prenatal yoga. Numerous yoga workshops are scheduled for 2018, including a teacher training workshop in partnership with the Amrit yoga institute for a 200-hour yoga alliance certification.
Connie Brogan, Director of Yoga Programming for The Clouds Studio is pleased with how much the yoga practice has grown. “We have made The Clouds the premier place to practice in the southeastern part of Georgia. With classes that appeal to a range of ages, our yoga family is expanding,” shares Connie. “There truly is something for everyone.”
There are memberships to suit everybody including Corporate memberships. The Club is located at 2929 Demere Road on St. Simons Island and is open 7 days a week. For more information, call 912.638.5600 or visit theclubssi.com.
