One Lens Can Do It All – by Dr. Carlton Hicks
Many patients in my practice ask if there is an alternative to having one pair of glasses for driving and another pair for reading or the computer. Others who wear reading glasses only would like to be able to look at distance without continuously putting on and taking off their glasses all day. The answer for many of these patients is PALs (progressive addition lenses).
I have been fitting progressive lenses since their inception and have seen great improvement in the optical quality and patients’ ability to adapt to these lenses. Great advances have been made recently with the new digitally enhanced Varilux “S” series progressive lenses.
In my practice, I believe there are three factors that contribute to the successful wearing of progressive lenses: first, the accurate prescription; second, very accurate frame measurements; and, third, the very best quality lenses. Varilux lenses are our lenses of choice.
If you have tried progressive lenses in the past and been unsuccessful, consider trying the new Varilux “S” series lenses for limitless vision. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Come to Coastal Eye Care, Golden Isles’ premier optical boutique to let us help you find the lenses that work best for you.
Choosing Your Frames – by Molly Hicks Hardin
Eyeglasses are the new accessory -- like jewelry for your face. With so many materials, shapes, colors and designs available, the sky is the limit. Whatever suits your mood or occasion, we have the perfect pair of glasses for you at Coastal Eye Care.
When matching frames to your face shape, there are some general guidelines. A round shaped face can appear thinner and longer with an angular frame, such as a rectangular shape. For an oblong shaped face that is longer than it is wide, a frame with more depth than width will make the face appear shorter and more balanced. There are no absolutes when choosing lens shape. The best way to decide on a frame is to try on quite a few.
When selecting a frame it is very important that the frame not only fits, but is comfortable too. The bridge should fit well and the temples should not be too long or too short. If you are wearing a progressive lens, your eye should be centered in the lens to get the most out of your lens.
Color is a great way to accentuate the positive. If you have blue eyes, a blue frame will make those baby blues POP! The same works for green eyes. Try a tortoise colored frame highlighted with green. Various tints can also be added to the lenses for subtle color.
You’d be amazed what a difference a change in frames can make. If you’re tired of hiding behind old, bulky frames, lighten up with a pair of rimless lenses. Make a statement with bold, colorful frames. At Coastal Eye Care, we can help you find the frames that best suit your face and the look you choose.
