In August, Dr. Whitney Nell Stewart became the Coastal Georgia Historical Society’s fifth Executive Director after initially joining CGHS in February as the Director of Collections & Education. With the curatorial foundation laid by Mimi Rogers and the institutional fortitude provided by previous Executive Director Sherri Jones, CGHS is positioned to grow into the regional presence originally intended by its founders. Whitney is a scholar, author, and educator with more than a decade of experience in museums, historic sites, and universities. As an advocate for the power of history in our world today, she is eager to work with CGHS’s talented staff and dedicated volunteers to connect more people to the region’s fascinating stories. Dr. Stewart brings advanced training as a historian, dedication to purposeful leadership, a collaborative and energetic spirit, and a willingness to embrace new ideas and possibilities. CGHS is confident that Dr. Stewart, together with the Historical Society team, will maintain its reputation for excellence and vision in fulfilling its mission throughout Coastal Georgia.
