Permanent cosmetics date back to the days of Cleopatra. By the time she came to power in first century BC, Egyptian women had at their disposal a whole rainbow of cosmetics that were made from rocks, minerals, and plants of the region. Cleopatra reportedly used bright green malachite paste on her lower eyelids, deep blue shadow with pyrite flecks made from ground lapis lazuli on her upper eyelids, and darkened her brows with black kohl. Nuts, charcoal, plants and other natural substances created brilliant colors that were implanted using splinters, thorns and bones sharpened into precise instruments. Queen Cleopatra employed alchemists and beauticians who used a vast repertoire of cosmetic recipes to enhance her charms, which history clearly notes were legendary.
Over the centuries things have changed; however, the desire for women to look their best will remain until the end of time. Likewise, permanent cosmetics are here to stay. With busy lifestyles or health issues that hinder cosmetic application, many women are looking for alternatives to keep their make-up in place.
Beautiful brows frame the face, and as time goes by the aging process or illness can dramatically change our facial features. Using permanent cosmetics to return a natural look to your brows brings back the symmetry of your face and can take years off your looks. Other popular requests are eyeliner and lip color. Permanent cosmetics can also be used following medical treatment to deal with areola color, post-cancer body changes, scarring and camouflage, for profound results.
While defined as a facial tattoo, permanent cosmetics use color pigments using vegetable-derivatives, unlike body tattoo dye, that are specifically developed for face work to enhance someone’s looks. Pigments are implanted into the dermis of the skin where they will remain. These heal to a much softer look. Over time the pigment will fade due to sun exposure, exfoliating, and tanning beds, meaning touch-ups are necessary. Side affects are rare and studies have shown that permanent cosmetic dyes cause little to no irritation during an MRI, as body tattoos sometimes can.
Consider the time you can save with permanent cosmetics! If you suffer from allergies to regular make-up, have painful arthritis, or your make-up wears off by mid-day then you will benefit from beautiful, natural looking make-up that last all day and into the night. Permanent cosmetics do not take the place of make-up—they enhance it—and when you don’t want to apply cosmetics, you don’t have to, because it’s already there! After a thorough consultation, pigment selection and design will be discussed in detail with client to insure a successful result.
