Are you in pain? Too embarrassed to smile? But you can’t fix the problem because you’re scared to go to the dentist? You are not alone. Many people are afraid to go to the dentist. But you can relax; we can make your visit calmer and more comfortable through sedation dentistry. It’s so easy.
The first step is to call the office to make an appointment for an initial consultation. We will explain the process, review your health history, perform an exam, and take x-rays if you are comfortable. We want you to be at ease with our office and to thoroughly understand the procedure. The next step is to decide on treatment and set an appointment date. Once that is done, the hard part is over.
We will perform your treatment using conscious (or oral) sedation with very safe sedative medicines called benzodiazepine. You will be provided with a sedative to take the night before your procedure so you will sleep well and not be anxious about your appointment. The morning of your treatment we ask that you dress as comfortably as possible and we require someone to drive you to our office. Once you are at the office and snuggled under our soft blankets, we will administer additional medication that is appropriate based on your health history and the treatment you need. The medicine will be crushed and placed under your tongue so it will be absorbed at a quicker rate. This is a very safe and effective method and no extra needles are needed!
You will be monitored during the entire procedure. Once you are feeling calmer the treatment will begin. You will be awake, but you will be so relaxed that the visit will go smoothly and we will be able to perform several procedures during your appointment. Following your treatment, your companion will drive you home and you will need to drink plenty of water and will be restricted from driving for 24 hours. Some of the medications have amnesic effect, so you may not remember any of your visits, and you may have little or no discomfort the following day because you were so relaxed during your visit.
