For high school students drawn to the energy of athletics and the science of health care, Southeast Georgia Health System’s Student Athletic Trainer Camp offers a unique opportunity to experience both worlds firsthand. Now in its 13th year, this highly regarded program continues to inspire the next generation of sports medicine professionals through immersive, hands-on learning.
Scheduled for June 23–25, 2026, the three-day camp is open to students entering grades 9 through 12 and is designed to introduce participants to the fast-paced, team-oriented field of athletic training. Hosted by certified athletic trainers from the Health System’s Sports Medicine team, the program goes beyond the classroom, giving students a realistic look at the critical role athletic trainers play in keeping athletes healthy, safe and performing at their best.
Throughout the camp, students step into an active learning environment that mirrors real-world scenarios. Participants rotate through interactive stations focused on essential sports medicine techniques, gaining practical experience that builds both skill and confidence. From evaluating common athletic injuries to learning how to respond effectively in high-pressure situations, students develop a deeper understanding of what it takes to provide care on and off the field.
In addition to injury assessment and basic treatment, campers are introduced to athletic taping and bracing techniques used to prevent and manage injuries. They also receive instruction in hands-only CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) use and first aid fundamentals—skills that are valuable not only in sports medicine, but in everyday life.
Beyond technical training, the camp highlights the collaborative nature of health care. Students gain exposure to the broader network of professionals who support athletes, offering insight into the many career pathways within sports medicine and related fields. The experience is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and help students begin envisioning their future in a dynamic and impactful profession.
The Student Athletic Trainer Camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at Brunswick High School. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged, with a deadline of June 8., 2026. The cost is $130 and includes all camp materials, lab supplies, meals and a camp T-shirt.
By combining hands-on instruction with real-world insight, Southeast Georgia Health System’s Student Athletic Trainer Camp continues to provide an engaging and meaningful introduction to the world of sports medicine—one that leaves students both informed and inspired.
