41st Annual Super Dolphin Day Race
to
St. Simons Casino Building - Library/Theatre 550 Beachview Drive, Saint Simons Island, Georgia 31522
The Annual Super Dolphin Day Race is scheduled for Saturday, February 23rd in St Simon’s
Pier Village. St. Simons Elementary & Oglethorpe Point Elementary Schools PTA SDDR chairs Ashlyn Elze & Natasha Williams have been busy planning since the school year began in August.
Just as big a part of Super Dolphin Day is Friday night’s Pasta Party which will be held this year at the St. Simon’s Casino building on February 22nd from 5pm-8pm. Race participants can come pick up their packets in preparation for the morning run, check out awesome silent auction items and eat in or carry out yummy carbs provided by one of this year’s Pasta Party Sponsors: Halyards Catering.
The annual fundraiser was originally started by St Simons Elementary PTA members Creta Nichols and Vickie Myers in 1978. The first race only included a one-mile fun run – and the event was so successful, that the PTA decided to make it an annual tradition with the addition of a 5K, 10K and pasta party.
Oglethorpe Point Elementary School PTA joined forces with St. Simons Elementary PTA in 1994 to help organize the race and share the proceeds which are used to purchase items that enrich the students learning experience at both schools. Today, the 3 races annually attract an average of 1000 plus participants and spectators, and the event is one of the largest fundraisers for the schools.
