The St. Simons Literary Guild presents an Author Talk with Carolyn Newton Curry. Carolyn is an award-winning author, historian, and non-profit founder and director of Women Alone Together. She a PhD from Georgia State University. In 2014, she published “Suffer and Grow Strong: The Life of Ella Gertrude Clanton Thomas 1834-1907,” selected One of the Books all Georgians should read by the Georgia Center for the Book. In that 2015 she received the Georgia Author of the Year from the Georgia Writers Association.
Carolyn visits with her husband, the legendary coach Bill Curry, to discuss her latest book – TRUDY’S AWAKENING (publication date 9/2/25)— a historical novel set in late 19th-century Georgia, following three women—Gertrude Thomas, born to wealth; Amanda “Mae” and her mother, once enslaved; and Lizzie Jeter, an aspiring artist—as they confront societal barriers to freedom, rights, and success. Inspired by Suffer and Grow Strong, their intertwined journeys reveal resilience, friendship, and the fight for progress.
