The St Simons Literary Guild presents an Author Talk with Pamela Bauer Mueller about her most recent work, "The Wheelman's Daughter." Pamela is an award-winning author who has won three Georgia Author of the Year Awards. Her newest novel is about Robert Smalls, who, in 1862, navigated a Confederate naval vessel past Fort Sumter delivering the ship into the hands of the Union, and gaining freedom from slavery for his family. This maneuver made Robert a prominent figure in South Carolina, but also made quite an impression on his four-year-old daughter, Elizabeth Smalls Bampfield, who grew up to become a pivotal figure in black communities while promoting freedom through education.
