Christ Church Fall Flower & Music Festival
to
Christ Church Frederica 6329 Frederica Rd., Saint Simons Island, Georgia 31522
The Fall Flower and Music Festival was conceived as a special fundraiser for the St. Cecelia Series. The idea of flower festivals originated in Dorset, England, to raise funds for the restoration of churches and cathedrals. The public was invited to view the floral decorations for two days with concerts and services included. Flower festivals were highly popular in early twentieth-century America, and after World War II, in Great Britain.
On October 24 – 25th, Christ Church, Frederica will be filled with glorious floral arrangements, and beautiful music will be heard both in the church and on the grounds. Noted Atlanta floral designer, Laura Iarocci will present a demonstration in the Parish Hall that will include six or more church flower designs. In addition, she will conduct a Master Class for 20 participants with a focus on table centerpieces. Tickets will be sold for both events. Ms. Iarocci has studied with leading floral designers around the world and is a Certified Floral Designer with AIFD. She is Chair of the Cathedral of St. Philip Flower Guild and a featured contributor to Judith Blacklock’s book Church Flowers. She is a frequent speaker at flower shows, garden clubs and churches.
On the evening of October 24th, a concert will be held in the Parish Hall featuring Ms. Suzanne Woods, Soprano and Mr. Lynn Bauman, Piano. Tickets will be sold for the concert with seating for 175.
With the exception of these three ticketed events, the Festival will be open to the public. The Flower and Music Festival is completely funded through ticket sales and individual donations. Any amount is appreciated and donors will be listed in the Festival program.
