Cinema Gourmet: Shane
to
Golden Isles Arts & Humanities - The Ritz Theatre 1530 Newcastle St., Brunswick, Georgia 31520
Cinema Gourmet, Golden Isles Arts and Humanities’ popular series pairing delicious food with classic films, will present a screening of the classic western Shane, on Thursday, March 19. The film’s screening and discussion are paired with the creative culinary creations of chef Kate Buchanan of Indigo Coastal Shanty. The evening’s events at the Historic Ritz Theatre begin with the tasting at 6:30 p.m.
"Shane ... Shane ... come back!" In this popular film directed by George Stevens, a weary gunfighter (Alan Ladd) attempts to settle down with a homestead family, but a conflict between settlers and ranchers forces him to act. The film’s color cinematography captures the legendary frontier with the Grand Tetons as a backdrop and won the movie’s sole Oscar for photographer Loyal Griggs. Shane was also nominated for five other Academy Awards—Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Brandon de Wilde), Best Supporting Actor (Jack Palance), Best Director and Best Screenplay (by A. B. Guthrie, Jr.).
“Shane is regarded as a timeless, classic western and one of the most successful of its genre during the 1950s, “ says Heather Heath, director, Golden Isles Arts and Humanities. “It has withstood the test of time and has inspired other films, including director/actor Clint Eastwood’s homage, Pale Rider.”
This season of Cinema Gourmet concludes April 9 with the popular Gene Kelly movie Singin’ in the Rain.
