Fort Frederica National Monument 6515 Frederica Rd., Saint Simons Island, Georgia 31522
Come to Fort Frederica National Monument for a global celebration of archaeology! Every
October, the Archaeological Institute of America and archaeological organizations, such as the National Park Service, present public programs and activities for people of all ages and interests. This global celebration of archaeology is known as International Archaeology Day.
The staff at Fort Frederica will host guest lecturers and exhibitors who are leaders in the field of archaeology on Saturday October 19, from 11:00 to 3:00.
Want to be an archaeologist for a day? There will be fun, hands-on activity stations in and around the visitor center focused on the scientific processes of archaeology. Check out a 3-D modeling exhibit inside the visitor center, learn about ground-penetrating radar, discover what tree rings and pipe stems have in common, and more! Kids will have an opportunity to win a special prize by completing at least 5 activities in the International Archaeology Day Exploration Passport. Also, don’t forget to ask about the Junior Archaeologist (Junior Ranger) Program.
