artists. Come & hear these talented artists talk about their work, their inspiration, process, techniques and why they chose abstract for their artistic expression and catch their exhibit before it closes on June 26.  Light refreshments will be served.

Suzanne Clements

Suzanne has been an art enthusiast since childhood. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism, she married, raised a family and entered the workplace. In parallel with her journalistic endeavors, she pursued the arts through private instruction, workshops and community classes. Suzanne soon realized that artistic accomplishment is a continuous process requiring a significant investment of time, so she quit her "day job" and devoted herself full-time to developing her artistic talents. She returned to school to study fine arts at DeKalb College in Atlanta and received the 1995 Fine Art Scholarship for her work. She continued her studies at Georgia State University where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting. Suzanne resides on St. Simons Island.

Sabre Esler

Sabre Esler an Ohio native, graduated from Miami University with a BFA and graduated from SCAD in 2015 with an MFA in painting. She has been painting since the early 1990's and is best known for her dreamscapes. Her current body of work explores the architecture of thought. Thoughts have structure based on layers of truth seeking experiences. The work explores the metaphors "brain storm", the "spark of an idea" and "having your head in the clouds" and the concept of "emotional intelligence". Her vivid palette, impasto textures and expressionist spirit result in energetic canvases that reflect the emotional aspects of human psychology. One of Georgia's most exciting emerging artists, Sabre's works are cutting-edge fresh. The artist, who is greatly influenced by the Abstract Expressionists, knows the importance of line and the energy and spontaneity it brings to a painting. Sabre loves texture and achieves it in novel ways, from carving through layers of paint on the canvas to using multiple mediums with multiple applications into her compositions. Sabre's work is showcased in galleries throughout the country and in numerous corporate and private collections. Sabre resides in Atlanta.

Peggy Everett

Peggy was born in New York and raised in Atlanta. She earned a BA in Psychology and Criminology from FSU and became a Court appointed Juvenile Officer in Atlanta. Eventually she owned and ran a working ranch in New Castle, Colorado. Peggy studied portrait oil painting with Roman, Constatine, and Marc Chatov and at the New York Studio School under Graham Nickson and Joseph Santore. She was staff at the New York Art Students League and studied at Denver Art Students League with Quang Ho and Kim English. She eventually studied at the Florence Academy of Fine Art, Florence, Italy as well as with Andrew Peters, Bob Kuhn, Russell Chatham, Scott Christensen, Clyde Aspevig and others. Peggy resides in Valona, GA.

Artist - Laura Parker

Laura Parker works with a wide variety of mixed media paints and materials. She creates abstract constructions on canvas, paper, wood, and glass. She began her artistic journey in the mid-1970's as a singer/songwriter and recording artist. She worked in musical theater as both singer and modern/jazz dancer. Her desire to push and explore rhythmic expression led her to begin work with mixed media in 2000. It was then she became a student of painting and drawing under nationally known Atlanta artist, Chery Baird, at the Spruill Center for the Arts in Atlanta. In 2008 Laura relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia, where she was juried into the renowned McGuffey Center for the Arts as a Resident Artist. Laura has studied in Japan and Argentina. She has shown in galleries in the Southeast and has expanded private collections internationally. She continues to write and record songs with Atlanta-based writers and musicians as well as continuing her visual arts pursuits. Laura resides on St. Simons Island.

Mandy Thompson

After giving up on art for more practical pursuits, artistic passions laid dormant in Mandy until her mid-30s. Those passions are now expressed through her life as a professional artist. Mandy draws inspiration from the transcendence of the natural world. Her pieces are loose abstractions that pull away from realism to capture the essence of nature. Her paintings include colors that reflect the vitality of life, textures that communicate the physicality of nature, and strong lines with open spaces that evoke a sense of freedom. Mandy weaves the messy-beautiful of faith and life through visual expression and reaches beneath the clean and serene to the vulnerable emotional contemporary art.Mandy believes life at its purest is good and her artwork is an invitation to engage in the natural beauty of life. Mandy resides in Brunswick.
