T² - Tales of the Griot

The Ritz Theatre 1530 Newcastle St., Brunswick, Georgia 31520
The Global Arts Initiative (GAI) is proud to present Tales of the Griot, an immersive concert experience featuring T² with special guests Wontanara Percussions, on Saturday, January 10, at 7:00 PM at the Historic Ritz Theater. This unique program weaves together West African musical traditions and contemporary performance, inviting audiences into a night of storytelling through strings, rhythm, and song.
T², the duo of brothers Jordan and Micah Taylor, blends Western classical training with the rich heritage of West African harplute music, drawing inspiration from the griot traditions of the Mande and Asante cultures. Their genre-defying sound moves from intimate, lyrical textures to driving, dance-infused passages, reimagining what a modern chamber concert can be.
Joining T² is Wontanara Percussions, an electrifying West African percussion and dance ensemble and the world’s first Black-owned instrument manufacturer and artist development agency. With djembe, dunun, balafon, and powerful choreography, Wontanara brings the heartbeat of West Africa to the stage, fusing traditional Malinké rhythms with the energy of jazz, funk, soul, and Afrobeat.
“Tales of the Griot is exactly what the Global Arts Initiative was created to do—bring cultures together through music and highlight the stories that connect us,” said Dr. Jordan Taylor, Founder & Executive Director of the Global Arts Initiative and one half of T². “This concert invites audiences to experience West African traditions in conversation with contemporary performance in a way that is both deeply rooted and refreshingly new.”
