to
Neptune Park Saint Simons Island, Georgia 31522
The St. Simons Rotary Club invites the community to come out to Neptune Park for the annual Taps at Twilight program on Memorial Day, May 27, at 6:45 p.m. This tribute and traditional observance of the holiday began in 1991 to honor the men and women who have fallen in the service of our country, those who have valiantly served and returned, and those who are serving today. There will be patriotic music performed, including anthems for each branch of service, and remarks by a guest speaker to be announced. The event is free and open to the public, attendees should bring chairs or blankets as provided seating is limited. Memorial bricks for Veterans Walk and American flags will be available for purchase.
Opening music by Golden Isles Community Concert Band begins at 6:45. The National Anthem will be led by vocalist Terry Clayton. Posting of the colors and wreath presentation will be followed by the invocation and Armed Forces Melody. This year’s Memorial Day address will be presented by Lt Col. Kenneth Dwyer, Garrison Commander at Hunter Army Airfield, introduced by a representative from Gov. Bryan Kemp’s Office. The audience will be invited to sing along with Terry Clayton for “I am Proud to be an American,” before the colors are retired and “Taps” is played to close the event.
