Veterans Memorial Park Opening
On Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., Glynn County will hold an opening and dedication ceremony for the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Brunswick Georgia on I Street near Highway 341. During the ceremony, the monuments will officially be unveiled by local former service members from the United States Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. The center monument, which memorializes Glynn County citizens that lost their lives in combat since World War I, will also be unveiled by a Gold Star Family. The keynote address will be given by United States Congressman Buddy Carter and Glynn County Chairman Michael Browning will act as the master of ceremonies. The Glynn Academy Wind Symphony will provide music and the combined Glynn Academy Marine Corps and Brunswick High School Navy JROTCs will provide color guard for the event. Veterans, Gold Star Families, Active Duty Military, and all others are invited to attend the opening ceremony of the park. Parking will be available on either side of I Street: at the park entrance and across the road in the County overflow lot. Handicapped parking will be available on J Street behind the park. The park, a SPLOST 2016 project, was competed in May of 2020, but the opening was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
