My Mom Marie: A Mother's Day Scrapbook

My mom, Marie Dennard, grew up in Toccoa, Georgia, an only child to her parents Tom and Louise Burton.  Her mother passed away when she was twelve. Hannah, the housekeeper, pretty much raised her while her Dad, my grandfather, ran his law business.  

“My Hannah is named after mom’s Hannah. I’ve tried my best to let Hannah be her own person and follow her passions. Like my mom, she is strong and disciplined…some would call it hard-headed.”

My father, Tom Dennard, grew up in Pineview, Georgia. Mom and Dad met at UGA.  He was president of Phi Delta Theta and president of IFC (Interfraternity Council). Mom was president of ADPi. They met at a meeting Dad called for all the Greek life presidents. Mom challenged him on something he wanted to do. It embarrassed him, and he said he hoped he’d never see her again. Ha Ha!

Mom taught me to try to always be kind. She would say to me 'pretty is as pretty does.' And also to finish what you start... I couldn’t quit anything mid-season. At the beginning of the season, I could choose not to participate but never during.

Mom and Dad married 64 years ago, March 24th, 1962, and moved to Brunswick October of 1963, one month before I was born, the first of their 3 children. Dad began working for the Nightingale Liles Law firm [Nightengale Liles Dennard Law Firm].  He worked as an attorney for 65 years before retiring last January.

My parents always loved traveling and have been all over the world. Also, they’ve been to every state in the US. Mom opened the travel agency, the Travel Service, with Camille Adams over 40 years ago.
