Because our website calendar doesn't like events that last more than a day and often fails to display them properly, we're going to keep a running list of ART EXHIBITIONS & EVENTS right here with "Artie," the paint-splattered pooch as our mascot. Scroll through to see ongoing displays at our local galleries, followed by special art events we have listed by date.

Glynn Visual Arts - 106 Island Drive
On display October 29 - November 22: Little Things - Juried Open Call Exhibition of Small Works. An eclectic selection of 70 pieces of “little” art will dance across the walls of the Portman Gallery at Glynn Visual Arts (GVA) in its newest exhibition, “Little Things.” Twenty-nine coastal artists are invited to present up to three pieces – each one no larger than 12 inches in any dimension. Mixed media, acrylics, beads, ceramics, oils, watercolors, photography, pastels, clay, embroidery, collage and more will be part of the show.
The old saying, “Good things come in small packages,” definitely applies to this collection. “A creative and moving piece of art does not necessarily fill a big space,” said Barbara Northrup, a GVA Board Member who helped curate the art for this show. “Small art draws you in for closer inspection and contemplation” she said.
Art lovers may find just the right piece for themselves or as a gift for the upcoming holiday season. “Little Things” original art is priced from just $45 to $450.
Once a year, GVA hosts an open call exhibition which means that any artist may submit works to be juried, or judged, into the show. This is that show. Some of the artists are first-time exhibitors while others are well-known local professionals. “It’s a fun, diverse, welcoming display,” said Morris.
The November 7 Opening Reception is in conjunction with the St. Simons Island Art Stroll involving these six distinguished galleries: Anderson Gallery (3309 Frederica Road); Art Trends Gallery (3305 Frederica Road); Portman Gallery at Glynn Visual Arts (106 Island Drive); Julep Gallery (269 Redfern Village); Wallin Gallery (3600 Frederica Road); Dutchman's Art Gallery (20 Airport Plaza). Everyone is invited to visit all six galleries from 4-7pm to engage with fellow art lovers, meet artists, and support the local art scene.
