Because our website calendar doesn't like events that last more than a day and often fails to display them properly, we're going to keep a running list of ART EXHIBITIONS & EVENTS right here with "Artie," the paint-splattered pooch as our mascot. BRUNSWICK

Brunswick-Glynn County Library - 208 Gloucester Street

The art of Linda Shannon, a local painter whose work focuses on the local landscapes and sites of the Golden Isles is on display through October and available for viewing during normal library hours.

The CoastFest Art Contest will open during First Friday, October 4. While CoastFest itself is cancelled due to the hurricane recovery, they’re still proud to present the artwork of nearly 800 talented local students. First Friday opening starts at 4:30 p.m.

Creative Frameworks Frame Shop and Gallery - 1302 Gloucester Street

Works by local artists and photographers on display in the frame shop’s gallery each month - opening reception during First Friday.

Historic Ritz Theatre - WilcoxGallery - 1530 Newcastle Street

Through Sept 27 Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is pleased to host Art Teachers' Art Exhibit in the Millie Wilcox Gallery. Come see the work of our wonderful local Art Teachers! The collection will be available for viewing until Sept 27 during regular gallery hours, by appt, or during events.

October 1-November 22

History of Brunswick - Celebrate the past, present and future of Brunswick through historic photographs and documents and artwork created by local artists. Gallery Showcase on October 1st will also run the video made for the Brunswick Sesquicentennial in 2006 that features more historic images and film footage.

Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p. m. and during performances and events. Admission to all art exhibits in The Wilcox Gallery at the Ritz Theatre is free. Southeast Georgia Health System - Horton Gallery, located on Brunswick Campus, adjacent to the Outpatient Care Center

ST. SIMONS ISLAND

Anderson Fine Art Gallery - 3309 Frederica Rd.

Works on display in Anderson Fine Art Gallery include an outstanding group of professional and emerging artists and offers landscapes, still life, and some non-representational works. Seasonal exhibitions complement their curated core collection of paintings and sculpture. New works from several of the gallery's artists on display through June.

Anderson Studio Gallery - 100 Sylvan Drive, Suite 170

Anderson Studio Gallery, formerly known as the Artists Annex, located right around the corner from Anderson Fine Art Gallery, is now a remodeled gallery, featuring pop-up exhibits and is the location for the many workshops hosted by Anderson Fine Art Gallery. These workshops have been held for more than 15 years and are taught by professional artists from across the country who come to the island to instruct fellow painters. Students travel year-round to attend the studio and plein air workshops. Full workshop schedule can be found at workshopsonstsimonsisland.com and attached below. Artist Sherry Egger also offers private instruction by appointment in the studio.

ArtTrends Gallery - 3305 Frederica Road

On display through November 2 at ArtTrends Gallery is the Texture and Color" Group Exhibition With Guest Artist Jim Stallings. Reception & St. Simons Art Stroll: Thursday, Sept. 12, 4-7pm. Come out for an enjoyable evening of art and the opportunity to meet Jim and see his new work!

Glynn Visual Arts - 106 Island Drive

From September 10 - October 25, Together Again, for the First Time will be on display in the Portman Gallery. Six accomplished artists from Georgia and Florida will showcase a variety of pieces from contemporary to traditional style in media ranging from applique (often referred to as painting with fabric) to collage, sculpture, art quilts, and more. Collectively, these artists have studied, taught, and worked in the arts across America.

K. Joy Ballard Peters “paints” with fabric in her appliques. She regularly exhibits in Atlanta area galleries and in quilt festivals. She earned degrees from Howard University and Boston University (Master of Fine Arts) and is a retired professor of art from Atlanta Metropolitan State College.

Janet Saboor is a quilter and previous owner of her boutique gallery, Diaspora Arts. Her international travel is a contributing inuence in her work. She is known for integrating social concerns with contemporary design in her quilts.Tae Earl Jackson has a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Cincinnati. Her ber sculptures integrate rhythmic patterns and texture to illustrate personal events and human emotion.

Gwendolyn Aqui-brooks holds a Master of Arts from Trinity College. She has been an art educator, gallery owner, and an art therapist.

Aisha Lumumba practices many artistic mediums including quilting, sewing, and cooking. She creates African American art depicting images and emotions inuenced by culture and history. President Barack Obama holds an Aisha Lumumba quilt in his private collection.

Sandra Teepen studied at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, WI. She works in weaving, costuming, quilting and collage. Her fabric collages combine traditional forms with contemporary color sensibilities and design. 

Much of the vibrant art provides a study in color and texture; some celebrates family, culture, and history; and others focus on social messaging, advancing art focused on African American imagery and life experiences. All of these women are friends and colleagues who look forward to sharing their best work with our community through Glynn Visual Arts. A free reception for the public will be held September 12, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at GVA, 106 Island Drive, St. Simons Island.This reception is in conjunction with the St. Simons Island Art Stroll involving five unique galleries: Anderson Fine Art Gallery (3309 Frederica Road); Art Trends Gallery (3305 Frederica Road); Portman Gallery at Glynn Visual Arts (106 Island Drive); Julep Gallery (269 Redfern Village); Wallin Gallery (2600 Frederica Road). Visit all five galleries to engage with fellow art lovers, meet artists, and support the local art scene.

Golden Isles CVB Welcome Center - 529 Beachview Drive

The CVB Welcome Center on St. Simons Island has art by local artists on display and available for purchase in its Live Oak Shop. Featured exhibit in September is Coastal Reflections, featuring works of the Coastal Photographers Guild. Regular hours are Monday - Saturday 9:00am - 5:00pm; Sunday 12:00pm - 5:00pm

Hotel Simone - 1200 Ocean Boulevard

Ute Kleemann-Sportschuetz is the current Artist in Residency at Hotel Simone in partnership with Glynn Visual Arts (GVA).

A 'Meet the Artist' reception will be held on Thursday, October 3, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the hotel's lobby. The event is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to join. Virginia Hall, Operations Manager at Hotel Simone and a devoted supporter of the local arts community will host the reception. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Kleemann-Sportschuetz and view her artwork, with light refreshments available for purchase.

Julep Gallery - 269 Redfern Village and now upstairs at Dutchmans Casual Living

A colorfully curated new art gallery in Redfern Village on St. Simons Island. Everyone is welcome to visit. Open 11am-5pm Tuesday-Friday and 11am-3pm Saturday.

Wallin Gallery - 3360 Frederica Road

JEKYLL ISLAND 

Jekyll Island Art Association - Goodyear Cottage - Historic Distric

The Jekyll Island Arts Association's October Gallery Show features works by painter Terry Shay, sculptor Joy Hughes and painter Joanna Hill. Opening reception Sunday, October 6 from 1-3 p.m.

Regular Hours: Weekdays noon-4pm and Weekends 10am-4pm. Admission is free.

Tuesday, October 1

First Tuesday Gallery Showcase - Historic Downtown Brunswick 5-7pm - The first Tuesday in October, patrons can stop in and see at the Brunswick Library the work of Linda Shannon, local painter whose work focuses on the local landscapes and sites of the Golden Isles. SoGlo Gallery is hosting “Best in Show”, a solo exhibition of the fun, playful and folk art style of NathanielThompson and his love of dogs. Nathaniel will be on site and drawing your favorite pets for donations. And the Wilcox Gallery in the Historic Ritz Theatre will be opening “The Art of Brunswick” celebrating the past, present and future of Brunswick with historic photos and memorabilia and artwork by local artists.  

Thursday, October 3

Hotel Simone hosts a 'Meet the Artist' reception for Ute Kleemann-Sportschuetz, the current Artist in Residency, in partnership with Glynn Visual Arts, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the hotel's lobby. Opening reception from 1-3pm at Goodyear Cottage on Jekyll Island for the Jekyll Island Arts Association October gallery show featuring works by painter Terry Shay, sculptor Joy Hughes and painter Joanna Hill.

Saturday, October 12

Pottery Sale with 9 participating potters and a huge selection of eclectic pieces. 10am-5pm in the St. Simons Casino Building.

Saturday-Sunday, October 12-13

Crafts in the Village returns to Postell Park on St. Simons Island. Come shop handmade and original art, skincare, candles, specialty foods and more from local artists and makers. Free to attend. Visit the Crafts in the Village Facebook page to see previews of vendors participating each month and any special activities or live music. Vendors on site 10am-5pm Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.

The Georgia Coastal Artists Guild Fall Art Show & Sale will be held in Room 108 of the St. Simons Casino Building. 10am-5pm both days.
