Because our website calendar doesn't like events that last more than a day and often fails to display them properly, we're going to keep a running list of ART EXHIBITIONS & EVENTS right here with "Artie," the paint-splattered pooch as our mascot. Scroll through to see ongoing displays at our local galleries, followed by special art events we have listed by date.

Cato is Professor Emeritus of Art and Art Education at Armstrong State University, which is now known as the Armstrong Campus of Georgia Southern University. COMING FEBRUARY 10 - MARCH 10: a casually elegant art exhibition, BeachShackFancy, that celebrates the iconic local beach life that is treasured throughout the Golden Isles. Glynn Visual Arts member and SSI artist Brandi Kennerly, brings the spirit of coastal living and nature’s whimsy to life in her vibrant pottery and acrylic paintings.
The public is invited to a free Opening Reception on Thursday, February 12, from 5:30 to 7 pm, to meet Kennerly in her preferred style -- a casual, tropical, welcoming setting at the GVA Portman Gallery located at 106 Island Drive, St. Simons Island.
Kennerly has 26 years of experience shaping clay and color with a cheerful, beach-inspired spirit. “I draw inspiration from our everyday island life,” said Kennerly. “The sand, sea breeze, shells, and sun-washed days seep into my studio sessions and my designs.”
In her pottery, Kennerly pairs carefully carved textures with organic forms; in her paintings, bright acrylic hues and lighthearted compositions evoke the joy of laid-back coastal afternoons. The result is art that feels alive, fun, and full of warmth. Ceramics include service ware, wall hangings, and home decor. Her acrylic paintings range in size from 4”x4” to 48” x 60”.
BeachShackFancy is more than a show; it’s a celebration of island living.
Through this collection, Kennerly hopes to bring a sense of happiness, ease, and connection to nature into every home. Her long-standing involvement with GVA’s community studio not only fuels her own creativity but grounds her art in the shared energy of fellow artists and coastal friends.
Whether you’re drawn to pottery or paintings, Kennerly’s work invites you to slow down, smile, and sink into the relaxed rhythm of island life.
