Here we are at the cusp of the season. May signals the end of the school year and the beginning of summer for our pools and beaches, yet the summer equinox is still a few weeks away. And like the horses at this month’s Kentucky Derby, we’re champing at the bit to get there! This season has been one of accolades for the Golden Isles with our islands being recognized not only as a top spring travel destination but ranking among the South’s Best Beach Towns. It’s only fitting that our transition from season to season begins with a celebration of those honors by Golden Isles Convention & Visitors Bureau at Village Creek Landing.
Travel + Leisure recently recognized Jekyll Island as one of the top travel destinations in the spring. This mention on the TODAY Show specifically highlighted Jekyll Island as a great place to visit in spring, referencing popular attractions like Driftwood Beach and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.
When Southern Living announced its South’s Best Awards, which is conducted through an online survey of over 10,000 respondents, St. Simons Island appeared an incredible four different times on the newly released South’s Best list. The annual survey highlights top Southern destinations, accommodations, and experiences, with results that help to highlight emerging trends and destinations that are resonating with today’s travelers. In the 2025 South’s Best Beach Towns awards, St. Simons Island took the #1 spot and Jekyll Island followed closely behind at #5. St. Simons Island was specifically recognized for its remarkable scenery, family-friendly atmosphere, and diverse attractions. Highlighted features of Jekyll Island included its unique wildlife and otherworldly beaches.
Not to be left out, Little St. Simons Island received the distinguished recognition of Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Award. These awards acknowledge destinations and organizations pioneering sustainable and eco-friendly travel. Focusing on the future of travel ensures we can continue to explore the world without damaging it, and Little St. Simons Island takes pride in its unique conservation efforts. With miles of serene beaches and peaceful maritime forests, myriad outdoor activities, unique coastal wildlife, and time-honored culinary scene, the Golden Isles is a destination to be included on any traveler’s bucket list no matter what the season.
Join the Golden Isles CVB for a community celebration of these accolades at their Toast to Travel event at Village Creek Landing on Wednesday, May 7, during the 2025 National Travel & Tourism Week. There will be networking, live music by Hot Banana Coffee, and delicious food and drink from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Space is limited, so an RSVP on EventBrite is requested.
