I was fortunate to be born and raised on St. Simons Island. My friends and I grew up barefoot on the beaches, riding motorbikes, fishing and more fishing. We all attended St. Simons Elementary School where I walked to school every day. My great-grandparents were of the original Waycross Colony that formed a neighborhood near the Village with their house right on the shore. Our very close knit community was safe and of a different era.
While St. Simons Island will always be home to me and my wife, Mary-Bryan, as we love thesmall town atmosphere, the ocean, the people, the history and our businesses, we also love our other oasis, located in the open plains of Kansas. I’m an avid bird hunter and discovered this hunting paradise over a decade ago. We love our time there and the opportunity to share it with our family and friends. Our grown children, Sarah Parker Peyer and Will Peyer, and our two dogs love our time in Kansas. It is a mental retreat for us all.
My grandfather taught me so much about the outdoors, farm life and being a “fix-it-man.” I learned how to diagnose problems and figure a way to fix them on my own. This is part of the allure of a Kansas farm – something is always broken!
After receiving my Masters in Taxation from the University of Georgia, I began working with what was then known as one of the “Big Eight” accounting firms, Price Waterhouse. After a few years in public accounting, I knew that my calling was elsewhere and began working for a residential development company in Atlanta during the height of its fiscal boom. Having learned the business over the next few years, I knew that I was ready to leave the city, return to St. Simons and start my own real estate development company. My previous partner and I started a real estate company in 1992 that focused on residential real estate and residential development. Since that time, DeLoach Sotheby’s International Realty has weathered all the economic storms over the years and we are stronger than ever. I’m proud that residential developments I developed are still current and growing.
Our real estate office is a family of sorts. Maybe that sounds a bit corny, but it’s true. We have three great staff employees and about 30 agents. I’m very conscientious about the symmetry and flow between all agents and employees in our office. This is a major source of pride I have about my business. Some agents have been with me since the beginning and some are newer. The bottom line is that we all appreciate and respect one another.

In 2010, I affiliated with Sotheby’s International Realty believing that the luxury real estate markets on St. Simons and Sea Island were not fully satisfied and were lacking exposure to other markets. For those reasons, we work more as a team encouraging one another, rather than as a group of individual real estate agents. At the end of the day, we all want to be proud of where we work and try to the best of our ability to conduct ourselves in such a way that our clients actively recommend us to their friends and family.
