In 2015, resolve to give. While monetary donations are important, there are other ways to give that are just as valuable. The United Way of Coastal Georgia suggests these options for non-traditional giving:
VOLLUNTEER your time to act as a mentor or tutor or to provide instruction for specific skills. Graduation Blueprint needs qualified men and women to tutor and mentor students. Whether it’s regular get-togethers just to grab ice-cream and kick around a ball at the park and talk about what’s going on or weekly math or writing sessions, someone who can commit their time on a consistent basis is a precious resource. Star Foundation needs individuals who can help train their students for interview skills. Other organizations may need help with classes or workshops on computer literacy, parenting skills, or other specific areas. Your talent and experience can benefit others.
PARTICIPATE in community work projects. Projects like United Way’s Days of Caring bring hundreds of community members together in one of the area’s largest volunteer events, to make an impact for a local nonprofit agency. Whether you offer to wield a paintbrush or your business donates the paint, your contribution is vital for such projects to be successful.

DONATE. Gently worn clothing donations are always appreciated and can be used and/or distributed by many local agencies. During cold weather, donations of coats are especially appreciated. Donations of dress clothes can benefit men and women who are seeking work but may not have appropriate attire for interview situations. And when your children outgrow them, donate toys too. Games, stuffed animals, puzzles, and other toys can be used in shelters or provided as gifts to families in need.
ADVOCATE. Help the United Way and other non-profit agencies spread the word about their needs or their mission by donating your marketing, broadcasting, writing, or networking talent or by acting as a community ambassador.
