Redfern Pest Control April 2014
PROTECT
By Wendy Couch, Redfern Pest Solutions
One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to take better care of your health. Why not take better care of your home’s health, too? Like tiny germs in your body, termites in your home can cause serious damage when undetected. Annual checkups with your doctor detect and prevent health problems before they become serious. So it makes sense that to protect and maintain a healthy home, you must have preventative checkups for termites done by a professional, too!
Termites eat 24/7, meaning damage to wood in and around a structure can happen very quickly, causing billions in property damage each year. Since termites are a constant threat to your home, there are some things you can do during the year to help deter them. Start by eliminating moisture conditions by repairing leaks, diverting water from your foundation, keeping gutters and downspouts clean and removing excess mulch and groundcover from around the foundation. You also need to remove termite food from around your home by keeping firewood or lumber away from the foundation, removing stumps near your home and creating a visible break between the wood and soil. Eliminating these conducive conditions make your home a less attractive target for termites; however, they do not guarantee termites won’t still make their way into your dwelling.
To ensure maximum protection, Redfern Pest Solutions will inspect your home and design a treatment with the most effective termite control program available utilizing the termiticide, Termidor. Termidor is the most effective termiticide available on the market today, providing 100% termite protection. As termites cannot detect a food source, be leery of those who claim to be able to control termite activity inside a structure using only monitors or baits.
With termite swarm season right around the corner, (typically February thru May in our region), be on the lookout for a temporary swarm of winged insects in your home or from the soil around your home. If you see discarded wings on windowsills or on the floor below windows in your home, these may be signs of a termite infestation.
