The 3rd Annual Food & Spirit Festival is taking place on St. Simons October 1-5. This extravaganza of food and wine benefits Hospice of the Golden Isles and is a showcase of some of the excellent chefs and restaurants we have locally. For detailed information about all of the events, including the Friday night Sip, Taste, and Tour Pier Crawl that EIL is hosting, and to buy tickets, visit saintsimonsfoodandspirits.com.
Unfortunately, I've been experiencing my own little food & spirits festival in my stomach lately.
There was a time, not so long ago, when I could eat anything, in any combination and sleep like a baby. Pizza and fried shrimp combo with a side order of onion rings? No problem. Corn dog and a chocolate shake? Bring ‘em on! Philly cheesesteak with extra bell peppers? I’ll take two!
Nowadays if I eat certain foods (combined with chocolate desserts of any kind), I sleep like a baby alright: I wake up crying every two hours. My latest epicurean (I bet you didn't think you'd say THAT word when you woke up this morning!) adventure left me in pain for four days.
I've been chewing Tums like Skittles but my acid reflux has become immune to antacid relief. So I went on WebMD and did the old self-diagnosis. I clicked on "Symptom Checker" then clicked on the stomach area on the body map, then clicked on distended stomach. It turns out I'm 8 weeks pregnant!
I don't want to give up my favorite foods, but I guess I'm going to have to start making some lifestyle changes. Maybe I'll start October 5th.
Oh yeah, and I'm registered at Bed Bath & Beyond for baby gifts.
