Like traffic on Frederica Road and taxes, aging is inevitable. But just as wine gets better with age, so do we. Sure, I’ve slowed down a little. I don’t try to ski the black diamond runs anymore. I get heartburn a lot easier after eating pizza or burgers. And my arm isn’t long enough to read a copy of EIL without readers. Yet, this March, as I reach the milestone of 60, I have found that there are a few things about growing older to which I’m looking forward. Because at a certain age you realize that you are the main character in your story—and you’re also the author!
DOING WHAT YOU WANT
You can say “No.” more easily with little or no guilt.
GAINING PERSPECTIVE
You’ve seen it all. Each life experience brings a broader perspective.
EXPRESSING COMPASSION
You’ve been through it all. With age comes more compassion.
MELLOWING OUT
You have better ability to see what’s important in life and what is trivial.
LETTING LOOSE
The older you get, the more empowered you feel. There’s real freedom in not caring what people think.
And most importantly,
HAVING NO REGRETS
I don’t want to be thirty again! Do you?!
