The holiday season is all about making memories! You know the Christmas season has arrived when you see that first tree tied on top of a station wagon driving home on Frederica Road. One of my favorite Christmas memories was going with my dad each year to pick out the perfect Douglas Fir at the local Christmas tree lot. With the holiday season upon us, here’s my plan on how to really get in the Christmas spirit!
First, I’m going to put on a holiday sweater and go mix it up with live music and delicious food at A Merry Mixer at Halyards and Tramici on December 3rd. How can you beat a fun party benefiting the Boys & Girls Club?! On December 4th, if I run in CASA’s Scrooge You 5K that morning, I might be able to burn off enough calories to eat the goodies I grab at the Cassina Garden Club Bake Sale afterward or that I munch on while I shop at Restoration Imports’ Carte Blanche Christmas Party that afternoon. But I can’t overdo myself, because there’s still the Golden Isles Messiah Chorus’ performance at 3:00 p.m. and the Holly Jolly Light Parade on Jekyll Island at 7:00 p.m. plus a ride around the island to see their amazing light display! Whew! That’s just 48 hours of holiday events and I didn’t even get to them all!

Some other activities that you and your family might want to add to your Christmas traditions include watching Santa arrive at the St. Simons Pier by harbor pilot boat on December 11th and seeing a performance of the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol” at The Ritz. As a member of The Island Players, of course I think you should come see our free Christmas Show at the Casino Theatre on December 19th too!
Finally, my favorite St. Simons Christmas tradition – one that’s been happening for an unbelievable 70+ years – takes place on Christmas Eve when Santa makes his trip around the island on his antique red fire truck, Engine 32, escorted by the Glynn County Volunteer Fire Department and St. Simons Civinettes. It really is a sight children of all ages remember forever!
From the EIL family to your family, may you have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
