The Brunswick Blessing of the Fleet Festival will be a two-day celebration of the best that Coastal Georgia has to offer, highlighting fresh seafood, coastal culture, shrimping, boating and other water activities, music, arts and crafts, and will take place at Liberty Ship Park, at the base of the Sidney Lanier Bridge, on May 9-10.
There will be musical entertainment all day Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's line-up: Beau + Luci -10:30am, Studio One - noon, Back Alley Cadillac - 12:30pm, Complicated Pants - 2pm, Randall Bramblett Band with special guest Geoff Achison - 4-6pm (no cover or admission charge for concert). Sunday's line-up: Squirt Gun Electric - 11am; Backbeat Boulevard -12:30pm, Red on Red - 2pm, Nick Bryant Band - 3:30pm. In conjunction with Second Sunday, all proceeds for raffles, etc. will benefit Amity House.
There will be rides and games, a bounce house, a fishing tournament on the pier, coloring contest and Mother’s Day writing and art contest for kids, as well as tours of a working shrimp boat and an aquatic life display touch tank. Golden Isles Power Squadron has provided a boating simulator, and there will be seminars on boating, fishing, and shrimping. Food and arts and crafts vendors will be on site. Festival hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The Blessing of the Fleet ceremony and procession will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in “best decorated” shrimp boat and private craft categories. Boats participating in the procession must fly the American flag to be judged.
Admission to the festival is free.
