St. Simons Island will beat New Orleans to the punch when it comes to Mardi Gras festivities this year. Even before celebrations start on Bourbon Street, The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort will be where the party gets started at the 3rd Annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball Gala Fundraiser for Golden Isles Arts & Humanities.
Masks, beads, feathers, hurricane drinks, king cake, music, and laughter will be the order of the evening in this fabulous newly renovated seaside historic venue. Guests are invited to exercise their creativity when it comes to costume. Formal ball attire or imaginative Mardi Gras ensembles are suggested. So go wild with bangles and beads. Find or create your own festive mask and or headpiece. Bring on the green, gold, and purple!
Spicy tastes of Cajun and creole will delight your tastebuds with an array of delicious New Orleans inspired food. And no Mardi Gras would be complete without a king cake! You’ll be able to test your hand with chance and win some fabulous prizes in games of skill and luck. It will be a perfect night for dancing too. Jazz in the Park perennial Latin Jazz favorite Sam Rodriguez and his band will set the tone with jazz standards, ballads, Latin music, and a repertoire that ranges from Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra to The Temptations and Marvin Gaye.
Sounds like a fun night, right?! Add in the fact that it benefits a community arts association, and it’s surely a can’t-miss event. Golden Isles Arts & Humanities began more than two decades ago as a volunteer group of citizens with a mission to promote and strengthen the arts and humanities in Glynn County. They were designated the coordinating arts council for Glynn County and the City of Brunswick in 1989, and also serve as managers of the Historic Ritz Theatre and Mary Ross Waterfront Park. Their commitment to developing and expanding the arts and humanities in the community has grown over the past 25 years to include year-round programming that includes live performances, cultural events, and educational activities. With the support of community partners, local businesses, and individuals, they continue to provide distinctive cultural events and education that engage, inspire and celebrate our community.
