This event is the largest and most widely attended open ocean paddleboard race in Georgia and continues to grow in popularity and participants each year. Over the past number of years, a charity has been selected to receive 100% of the net proceeds through the generous corporate and small business contributions, personal donations, registration fees and the yearly raffle. The 2014 beneficiary is the The First Tee Provider Of Southeast Georgia. The First Tee is an international youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. Through after school and in school programs, we help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf.
Race Agenda:
The 3 Mile Short Course will be a beach start, 1.5 mile out & back formatted race with 3 Classes, having Men's and Women’s Division in each:12'6" And Under Stock/Surf Board Shapes (Planing Hulls)12’6” And Under Race boards (Displacement Hulls)14' And Under Race Boards (Displacement Hulls)In addition to the three board classes there will be 2 age Sub-Division as follows: 14-49; 50 & Over Trophies will be awarded to both Men & Women in all divisions, 1st through 3rd place.
The Elite 7.5-mile competition course will be a beach start, out & back formatted race with 4 Classes, each with a Mens and Women's Division: 12'6 And Under Surf/Stock (Planing Hull)12'6" And Under Race/Touring (Displacement Hull)14' And Under Race Boards (Displacement Hulls)Unlimited - Must Be Traditional SUP Design, Planing or Displacements Hulls Only. No Multi Hulls, Foils or Rudders.In addition to the Board classifications there will be 2 age Sub-Divisions for the Elite Race:14-49; 50+ Trophies will be awarded to both Men & Women in all Board And Age Classes , 1st through 3rd place. Along with trophies for the top three finishers in each Board & Age Class, Prize Money Will Be Awarded To The Top Three Finishers in the 12'6"and under board class (Planing or Displacement) In Both The Men's & Women's Divisions as follows: First Place - $1,500; Second Place - $750; Third Place - $250.00
Grom Fest - 12 Years of Age And Under: This Category will have Boys and Girls Divisions with trophies awarded for the top three finishers in each division. This race will be a stagnate start, out and back format for an estimated 1 mile.
4 Person Relay Race: Each team will consist of at least one female. Teams are to select a single board 12'6" or under, to be raced/paddled by each team member. Team member paddles will be their own or shared. This race will be a beach start, out and back to a buoy and a beach tag to activate the next racer. The course will be an estimated 1/2 mile out and back per paddler. There will be no limit to the number of teams participating...can you say mayhem? This race is not timed, first to cross the finish line wins. Trophies will be awarded for the 1st-3rd place finishing teams. The Team Captain will submit the team name and identify each racer.There is no need to register separately for this event as long as you have registered for one of the main events. Teams can be made up just prior to the event, have fun!! There will be a twist to the start of this event and it will be explained prior to the start.
The Dog-On-Board Race will be a beach start with an out and back format. It is anticipated that the race will be no more that a 1/4 mile in totality, 1/8 of a mile out and 1/8 back.If your dog falls, you can not advance from the spot of the fall until the dog is aboard again. Other that that, all rules have gone to the dogs on this event. Doggie PFD are recommended but left to the handlers desecration. Award Plates will be given to the top three finishing teams and all K9s will receive a special award. There is no requirement for pre-registration, given you have registered for one of the primary events. Simply identify yourself and partner prior to the start of the event. The Race Will Be Electronically Timed By Scenic City Multisports Of Chattanooga, TN. Scenic City Utilizes "Jaguar" Timing Chips Having A 99.9% Accuracy Rate. As A Redundant Measure Volunteers Will Be Recording Racers Numbers As They Pass Through The Finish Line.
