On Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 3:00P.M., the First Baptist Church on St. Simons Island will host The Mozart Society of Glynn County presenting its 60th Anniversary Scholarship Benefit Concert to support the continued music education of local students. The concert will feature The Coastal Chamber Ensemble directed by Ann Merwin. Individual admission is $25 at the door with opportunities to donate to the The Mozart Society. Students from 6th grade through 12th grade compete each year for music scholarships ranging from $300 to $1,000 raised by the yearly benefit donations. The 2015 Scholarship Winners concert will be held on April 26th at the Christ Church Parish House on St. Simons Island.
Since May 10th, 1955, the Mozart Society of Glynn County, the first one in the United States, has been dedicated to the funding of scholarships for local music students. Historically, Mozart Society funds helped to establish the beginning of a Youth Symphony initiated by the Coastal Symphony of Georgia.
The Mozart Society is affiliated with the International Mozart Foundation of Salzburg, Austria.
