Wizard of Oz Sing-Along
The Summer Classic Movies at the Ritz presented by Golden Isles Arts & Humanities returns to downtown Brunswick’s historic theatre and opens with a fun sing-along event for the whole family, a screening of the much-loved classic The Wizard of Oz (1939). The movie starts at 7:00 p.m., but audiences should be there early to enjoy fun short subjects and cartoons, take part in a fun costume contest and maybe be a lucky winner in the door prize drawings.
“This is the 75th anniversary of this much loved classic,” said Executive Director Heather Heath, “so we absolutely had to include it in this year’s line-up; it’s also one of the most requested films. The audience can sing-a-long with Dorothy and her friends as they follow the yellow brick road!”
Audiences are also encouraged to come dressed in costume inspired by the film. This year special medals created by Color Me Happy will be given in the following categories: Cutest, Most Creative, Witchiest, and Lollipop Guild. “We have seen some amazing costumes at the Ritz over the years,” said Heather, “so I am really looking forward to what people come up with in these categories.”
In addition to costumes and songs, audiences will be served piping hot popcorn at no cost courtesy of MTR Real Estate professionals Angie Aimar and James Laurens (while it lasts), and all ticketholders will be entered in the door prize drawing for a chance some fun items donated by downtown businesses Cunningham Jewelers, Ned Cash Jewelers, and Glynn Chiropractic among others. Fox’s Pizza Den offering a great “Dinner and a Movie” special on show nights – buy your ticket prior to the show and take it to Fox’s for 10% off your bill and priority dining to get you back in time for the movie. And ticket holders can show their tickets at Tipsy McSway’s for one free draft beer after the show.
The fun continues every Thursday during the month of July with an array of modern classics: Dustin Hoffman in the iconic film The Graduate on July 10; George Lucas’ coming-of-age movie American Graffiti on July 17; and Woody Allen’s Oscar winning comedy, Annie Hall on July 24. The series closes with Steven Spielberg’s epic action-adventure, Raiders of the Lost Ark on July 31.
Admission to each show in the Summer Classic Movies series is still only $5 for all ages. The box office opens at 5:00 p.m.; cartoons, previews, and short subjects begin 20-30 minutes before show time.
