A Taste of Glynn
Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." There is no shortage of thoughtful, committed people here in the Golden Isles and all of those sponsors, participants, volunteers, and attendees of the 14th annual A Taste of Glynn are helping to make a positive impact on the lives of the families who rely on the services of the Glynn Community Crisis Center.
Presenting sponsor Stambaugh Aviation and the participating chefs and caterers invite you to watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean and enjoy an evening of fun, great food and entertainment at the beautifully renovated King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on Sunday, March 30. A Taste of Glynn is a showcase of some of the area’s finest cuisine. Performing musicians include The Three of Us, Michael Hulett, Triage, and “The Music Director” Mary Monroe on piano. All proceeds will benefit the Glynn Community Crisis Center's Amity House and Hope House programs for victims of domestic violence and their children.
A team of volunteers and ATOG's advisory group of longtime supporters are working to insure a good time will be had by all. As Mary Lynne Cochran, past board member and ATOG chair, stated, "What could be better than knowing you're helping folks in our community, while enjoying an elegant environment, great music, and fantastic food. It doesn't get any better than this."
Guests will sample fantastic local cuisine, meet our talented community of gracious and fun-loving culinary professionals, and maybe even take home a helpful hint or recipe or two. Board Vice President Carolyn Hearn states, “We could not possibly have this event, which is absolutely vital for Amity and Hope Houses, without the enthusiastic help of our participating chefs and the generous financial support and unfailing advice from restaurateurs who cannot be with us on the day of the event.”
St. Simons wine expert Mark Gagliano joins past President of the Board of Directors and Co-Chair for A Taste of Glynn Elizabeth Sorrells to co-chair the popular wine raffle. He says, "We live in a land of food and wine, where area people enjoy fine foods and fine wines together. What a wonderful way for us to raise money for such a fine and worthwhile organization!" The outstanding estate wines of Val du Charron, including their Girlfriends label, will be featured in this year’s raffle.
As always the Silent Auction will "have something for everybody". Marketing specialist Caylee Bickmore is arranging for a unique entry, giving only this hint: "Grandmothers, get to the Silent Auction early and often to make sure you get one! There are just a few available. You won't even have to pay postage and handling."
Glynn Community Crisis Center provides refuge and support for the women and their children who have existed in domestic violence environments in both Glynn and McIntosh counties and allows them the time to gain the self-confidence to re-enter the community and become contributing citizens. “Domestic violence is not a pretty issue, and not one easy to talk about, but it is present in all socio-economic levels of our society,” says Elizabeth Sorrells. “It has a significant effect on the economy of our community. We are extremely grateful to our restaurants, caterers, all volunteers, and, of course, to our patrons who support A Taste of Glynn.”
